The Last Of Us Part 2 was a massive success in terms of sales as the PlayStation exclusive crossed around 4 million in just 3 days. The original game was released seven years ago and fans absolutely loved it. And now that they finally got the sequel, it was bound to break records.
Although, the game has received mixed reactions from the players. The major issue that the fans have is Joel’s death early in the game. Nevertheless, the game is beautifully intense and a visual masterpiece. No wonder HBO decided to make a series out of it.

HBO’s The Last Of Us TV series
If you didn’t already know, HBO is indeed making a TV series on ‘The Last Of Us.’ Here’s where it gets even more exciting, ‘Chernobyl’ director, Craig Mainz, is making it in collaboration with Neil Druckmann, the director of the TLOU Part 2. ‘Chernobyl’ was undoubtedly one of the best shows of 2019 and this only creates more hype for HBO’s project.
The makers have to be spot on with the casting if they are to make the series as intense as the game. Especially the main characters Ellie and Joel. In a recent interview with Collider, Troy Baker, who voiced Joel’s character, discusses what he thinks of the role. He says,
“All I want out of Joel, I have done. I have taken Joel as far as I can take it. I did the same in part one. Same in part two. That was my job, was to move that character as far forward as I could. What I’m excited about is finding someone that can give me a completely different side of Joel, and show me how far that character can stretch.”
Troy is absolutely spot on here. If there is one thing that makes TLOU so good is the chemistry between Joel and Ellie and how perfectly Troy does justice to the character. If HBO is to succeed here, they NEED to cast the best actors to play Joel and Ellie.

Troy thinks Josh Brolin should play Joel
Many fans along with Troy believe that Josh Brolin would be the perfect guy to play Joel. Troy even shared a story of how he asked Brolin directly to take up the part. He says
“I remember being at LAX and Josh Brolin was there, we were in the lounge together, and I walked up. I was like, ‘Man, I doubt you remember this, but you and I were doing a movie.’ He was doing No Country, and I was doing a western. And I was like, ‘You and I met, we had drinks this one night, we had a good night.’ He was like, ‘I think I remember that,’ and I was like, ‘I doubt you do, because I know how much we all had to drink.’ I said, ‘There is a game that’s coming out and I want you to know that, for me, so much of your work was very influential.’ And he really, really was. And I was like, ‘If you ever get the call for a character named Joel, I would be honored and I think you would be enriched to play that character.’”
That settles it. The guy who played Thanos and Cable in different Marvel movies is the perfect man for the job. Troy also wants to see what Mainz can do with this character to take it to the next level. Well, looks like HBO has a very tough decision to make. We sure hope it is someone who will do justice to the role and show Ellie and Joel’s story just as beautifully as the game does.
