MX Linux Releases First ISO For Its KDE Plasma Edition

by admin

Last month, the MX Linux dev team released a new version 19.2 in its MX Linux 19 ‘Patito Feo’ series. Based on Debian Buster 10.4, MX Linux 19.2 came with Xfce 4.14 desktop environment and some other minor updates and bug fixes.

On high user demand, MX dev team is now working on a new official edition featuring KDE Plasma desktop for the first time. Subsequently, the team has released the first Beta of MX Linux 19.2 with KDE 5.14.5 for testing purposes.

MX Linux is known for being a very lightweight, stable, and fast GNU/Linux distribution owing to Xfce desktop and Debian upstream. However, compared to the popular desktop environment like GNOME or KDE, Xfce edition is not much visually appealing and customizable.

But with the upcoming MX-19.2 KDE, you can enjoy the Debian-based, systemd independent MX Linux with modern, beautiful and highly customizable Plasma desktop environment.

MX-19.2 KDE is a 64-bit only version with Advanced Hardware Support (AHS) enabled. Similar to the standard Xfce release, KDE Beta also includes the usual MX tools, antiX-live-usb-system, and snapshot technology.

Among the applications, it ships GIMP 2.10.12, Firefox 78, VLC 3.0.11, Clementine 1.3.1, Thunderbird 68.9, LibreOffice 6.1.5 and more.

If you want to try MX-19.2 KDE Beta right now, download the ISO image from here. Before you install it, let me tell you that being a beta version, it surely contains bugs. Hence, you should not use this edition as a daily driver.

The beta also has some known issues which you can configure manually. For instance, for setting up a wireless network connection, you need to edit the connection profile and check “All users may connect to this network.” If you find any other bugs, you can report them at bugs.mxlinux.org.
